Manchester United will reportedly rival Real Madrid and a number of other clubs for Lyon teenager Mathis Rayan Cherki.

The Red Devils appear to be set on injecting some youth into their squad this summer, having already completed the £15million capture of Swansea winger Daniel James.

Now, The Telegraph are reporting that another teenage starlet has caught their attention in Cherki, a 15-year-old who plays for the French club as an attacking midfielder/striker.

They cite reports in France when claiming that Real Madrid, Juventus, Barcelona and Bayern Munich have all been linked with a potential swoop.

United’s interest is described as ‘unusual’ due to the fact they have a tendency ‘not to get involved in major bidding for scholarship-aged players’.

The 15-year-old becomes eligible for a move within the European Union when he turns 16 in August, something which has clearly alerted a number of elite suitors.

Cherki actually became the youngest scorer in the history of the UEFA Youth League with a goal against Manchester City’s U19s back in September, but Lyon have thus far been unable to tie him down to a professional contract, allowing United to swoop.
