I started 25 years ago when everything was very different, given the opportunity largely because I wrote amusing emails to Steve, the editor. Since then I’ve been nominated as writer of the Sports Book of the Year and Football Book of the Year, which I’m inordinately proud of.
I got an English degree 43 years ago in a haze of draught sherry from the off-licence (ask yer dad) and magic mushrooms! I’ve now written 22 crime novels, 18 based on Teesside where I grew up and three non-fiction books in the last 15 years and count many football media people as (internet) friends, all of whom were very encouraging when I had a stroke in November 2023. Because I’ve been around a long time, people think they know me. They rarely do.
