Insider confirms Liverpool talks for star midfield pair are ‘legit’ and they’re ‘ones to watch’
Transfer insider Ben Jacobs has confirmed that Liverpool talks for Khephren Thuram and Manu Kone are “legit” and deals for both are “ones to watch”.
The Reds’ somewhat below par season was not helped by issues in the midfield. That the centre of the park is ageing and has become the most stale area of the side was not hard to spot.
After finishing just a point shy of title winners Manchester City the season prior, they’d have wanted to not be let down by any of their players. Alas, the recently-concluded season showed Jurgen Klopp it was time for a rebuild.
The midfield area, having already been identified as one that needed improvement, will also see Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner depart, giving further cause for some additions.
The first order of business in the middle of the park was the signing of Alexis Mac Allister. The Brighton man has joined for just £35million – seemingly cheaper than he’s worth.
Reports have suggested deals for two more midfielders are in the works, too: Nice’s Thuram and Borussia Monchengladbach’s Kone.
That the Reds have already put the wheels in motion for both of those deals has been confirmed by insider Jacobs, who suggests there’s a genuine chance of both men heading to Anfield.
“They definitely want to bring in another midfielder. The Thuram and Koné talks are legit. Liverpool have certainly enquired about those two players, so both are ones to watch,” Jacobs told GIVEMESPORT.
Signing both along with the already confirmed snare of Mac Allister would completely transform the midfield. Both Thuram and Kone are 22 years of age, and bring a different dynamic to the midfield.
Thuram would add a more creative element to the holding midfield role, while Kone is a more hardened midfielder who will also provide chances for those around him.
Putting the three men together could certainly allow Liverpool more success than they’ve had this season, and given their respective ages, could do so for years.
Indeed, Klopp will want his side to be challenging for at least a top-four spot in the upcoming campaign, after missing out on Champions League for next season.
